We left Goose Pond today at about 1 pm, and I for one am very happy to be on our way. Don't get me wrong - I've loved our time in Scottsboro, and will miss all of our new friends something terrible. Thanks to everyone there for your friendship, and for sharing so fully of your time, experience, and knowledge with us. Thanks, too, to Rick & Kathy for the washing machine (we'll let you know when laundry day comes), to Ron & Gail for all of the charts (a full set that covers the entire loop), to Ray & Patsy for more charts and various necessary pieces of hardware.
But back to the journey. As I said, we left at about 1 pm, later than planned but still with plenty of time for a few hours travelling. We headed for Honeycombe, just above Guntersville Dam and Lock. The trip itself was uneventful, we were safely anchored by about 3:45, leaving lots of daylight to continue with the unfinished chores. But, of course, we didn't do very much...an early supper, and revisions to the trip plan mostly.
It's full dark now, and only 6:30 pm, so each day's travelling time will be limited, and with daylight saving time change tomorrow it will get dark even earlier. The bugs came out just after dark, and I have never seen mosquitoes as big as these - I'm talking pick you up and carry you away mosquitoes. No wonder there are bat caves very close by - the bat buffet must be pretty good.
We're sitting on the bridge, sipping some after dinner wine. It will be an early night for us, as Michael has an early morning start planned. Our first lock is just a few miles down the river...I'll let you know how that goes tomorrow.
