Welcome to Florida

Michael finally got to see the sand dunes he has been waiting for.  They stretch for miles along this part of the gulf coast, creating barrier islands and a protected inside passage for travelers like us.  Having officially crossed into Florida, we truly feel like we are making progress again. As nice as Alabama is, we are glad to be moving into another state, if only because it means we are getting closer to the Bahamas - the ultimate goal.

We stopped mid afternoon at a free dock in Pensacola Beach.  The immediate area is filled with restaurants, bars, beach shops, and hotels.  It seems we just missed their Santa Claus parade, and the crowds were just dispersing as we arrived.

Lunch was at 'We got Crab's'...a neat little beachfront restaurant specializing in, what else but seafood!  We enjoyed some char grilled oysters and shrimp and snow crab mac & cheese while listening to a steel pan duo doing really bad covers of every summer/beach type song you can think of -  especially Jimmy Buffet.  The food was great - the entertainment not so much.

It's nice to be on our way again, and we are planning an early start tomorrow to put some miles behind us.

Today's miles:  36

Total miles:  730.6
